BBC Lifeline Appeal

Konnie Huq,  recently went to film and visit Afghanaid's programme in the isolated and remote province of Badakhshan for the BBC LIfeline Appeal.

The short film of her trip will be broadcast this Sunday, September 21st BBC1 at 4:30.

Konnie on a Badakshan flood plain

Here, Konnie learnt just how tough life can be for women and children in Afghanistan, especially in the remote province of Badakshan, which has the highest maternal mortality rate in the world. She met volunteer health workers who had been trained by Afghanaid and who had saved the lives of women and babies in their village. Konnie also visited our child peer groups and saw how teaching children about their rights is helping them to improve their lives and speak out against issues like early marriage and child labour.
