Afghanaid is an international charity that operates only in Afghanistan. We work alongside Afghans in the most remote and marginalised areas of Afghanistan, to help them meet their survival and development needs.
We work with rural communities to promote their economic, social and political rights, essentially helping poor Afghans to help themselves.
Disaster Risk Reduction
We recognise that effective Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) work can reduce the need for costly emergency assistance and well designed projects can increase resilience to future disasters.
Through our DRR work, we aim to help vulnerable Afghan men and women to build their resilience to external shocks and natural disasters by increasing their awareness and their ability to plan, prepare and respond.
We help communities to identify disaster-prone areas and reinforce them with retention walls, or relocate vulnerable livestock and homes. We also provide training in emergency evacuation and first aid, and distribute essentials including alarms, flash lights, and temporary shelters.
The core objectives of our DRR work are:
- Ensuring that disaster risk reduction awareness and capacities are increased within the communities and in schools.
- Ensuring that disaster risk reduction becomes a national and local priority.
