Afghanaid is an international charity that operates only in Afghanistan. We work alongside Afghans in the most remote and marginalised areas of Afghanistan, to help them meet their survival and development needs.
We work with rural communities to promote their economic, social and political rights, essentially helping poor Afghans to help themselves.
Studies show that reducing gender inequality and improving the status of women contributes to higher rates of economic and political stability.
Gender equality underpins al our programmes and approach to development. We create an environment for poor women to empower themselves as active citizens and responsible leaders.
Our experience has shown that working with men and women together has a more lasting impact on changing beliefs and behaviour than working with women’s groups alone. We ensure throughout all our interventions that both sexes are consulted at all stages – design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
Our goal is to achieve a state where poor women and men can exercise their rights, be co-decision makers, and have access and control over resources and services equally.
