Gift Aid
Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of giving to charity.
Using Gift Aid means that for every £1 you give, Afghanaid will receive an extra 25p from the Inland Revenue. This means that a £10 Gift Aid donation is worth £12.50 to us - what a difference this can make to Afghanaid, and it doesn't cost you a thing!
Next time you give a donation to charity, make sure you use Gift Aid. Look out for the Gift Aid logo or tick box on the donation form or appeal. Be sure to complete the declaration and send it off.
If you pay UK tax (income and/or capital gains) Afghanaid is entitled to reclaim on your donations in the same financial year.
To qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in income tax or capital gains tax must at least equal the amount the charity will claim in the tax year. Claiming Gift Aid ensures that if you choose to donate to Afghanaid, we can claim an extra 25 per cent back from the Inland Revenue.
What should you do if you pay a higher rate of tax? If you earn between £35,001 - £150,000 you can claim further tax relief in your Self Assessment tax return.
How long does the declaration last for? Claims for Gift Aid can be made no later than four years after the end of the accounting period to which the claim relates. So, for donations made during an accounting period ending 31st March 2012, the final date on which a Gift Aid claim can be made is 31st March 2016.
Who will have access to your information ? Only Afghanaid and the Inland Revenue. We will not share it with anyone else.
What should you do if my tax status changes or you want to cancel my declaration? Please notify us in writing at: Afghanaid, Development House, 56-64 Leonard Street, London, EC2A 4LT
What if I don't pay UK tax? Unfortunately, you are not able to make a Gift Aid declaration.
