Afghanaid has different internship opportunities throughout the year, currently we are looking for interested individuals to fill the following roles:
Individual Fundraising and Administration Intern - 6 months/2-3 days per week; apply by 10th March 2010 To apply please send your CV and a cover letter to admin@afghanaid.org.uk
If your borough or village is having a summer festival and you and a few friends are able to set up a stand for Afghanaid we can help to support you with the resources you need -- marquee, green tea, Afghan sweets, flyers, merchandise, etc.
In the past volunteer opportunities have included:
General Events - Collecting donations and putting up our display boards at Afghan-linked cultural events such as movies and/or music events (we went on tour with the Afghan group, Ensemble Kaboul, in 2003).
Festivals - In 2008, we have been participating in various festivals in and around London, but we cannot do this without the help of volunteers. Festival volunteers will receive entrance to the festival in exchange for helping us to raise awareness of Afghanaid. We tend to look for volunteers who have worked for us or individuals with significant experience or studies in Afghanistan.
World Fair and Christmas festivals - The World Fair is terrific fair trade event is held at the Connaught Halls, Red Lion Square in London in early December each year. Afghanaid has a stall selling books, CDs, DVDs and Afghan jewellery and embroidered items made by Afghan women refugees in Pakistan. We need volunteers to staff our stalls and help project manage the event.
Exhibitions - Volunteers help to run photographic exhibitions throughout the country about Afghanistan and Afghanaid's work. Raising Awareness - at universities through RAG week, your local church, community centre, or school.
Charity Challenges - Volunteer your time by taking on a challenge and raise money for Afghanaid. You could trek the Sahara, cycle to Paris or around Vietnam, or even skydive! Find out more...
Office admin/project management – During the year Afghanaid needs 2-3 interns to work within our London Office to assist in specific projects and tasks. Overseas
Afghanaid does not employ volunteers overseas as we have a policy of recruiting local Afghan staff. In general Afghanaid tends not to place expatriates in Afghanistan unless we are unable to find an Afghan to fill the post: over 95% of our staff are Afghan.
