What is UK Aid Match and how long is Afghanaid's appeal running for? Expand UK Aid Match brings charities, the British public and the UK government together to collectively change lives and support people around the world. It is designed to allow the British public to have a say in how UK aid is spent and provide opportunities to engage with international issues, whilst boosting the impact of work like Afghanaid's. For every £1 donated to a UK Aid Match charity appeal by an individual living in the UK, the UK government will also contribute £1 of UK aid - therefore doubling the donation - up to £2 million. Afghanaid's By Her Side appeal will run for 3 months, from 30th June 2022 - 30th September 2022.
What is By Her Side? Expand By Her Side is a special campaign backed by the UK government under its UK Aid Match initiative. The campaign’s aim is to raise money to support rural women in Afghanistan with the tools and training needed to feed their families and rebuild their lives. ‘By Her Side’ means that right now more than ever, Afghan women need us to stand with them. With just a bit of support, these women can have a huge impact on their own lives, their families’ and their entire communities’.
How will donations be matched and what does this mean? Expand Matched funding means that any donation made is matched, or doubled. In a UK Aid Match campaign, only donations made by individuals living in the UK will be eligible for matched funding, as the match funding comes from the UK government’s international development budget. This means, all donations made by a UK citizen during the 3 month campaign period will be doubled by the UK government, up to £2 million. Where will donations go? 100% of the match funds from the UK government will be used to support female livestock owners in remote rural Afghanistan. Half of the donations we receive from the public will also support this work, and the other half will go towards supporting our general work across Afghanistan, supporting families to recover and rebuild their lives, adapt to climate change and strengthen their resilience to future crises.
I can't afford to donate, can I help in other ways? Expand Absolutely! There are lots of ways to support this campaign beyond making a donation, including: getting involved with events and fundraising activities, supporting our campaign actions, eg. sharing our animation online, or raising awareness within your networks about the continuing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the situation for women.
