The Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development (AICS) was one of the key innovations established by the Italian law on international cooperation, with the aim of implementing international cooperation initiatives to improve people’s living conditions, promote sustainable development, strengthen democratic institutions and rule of law, as well as sustain post-conflict stabilisation.

AICS funds Afghanaid's work to economically empower Afghan women in order to strengthen and diversify household livelihoods, and support the women to claim their economic, social and political rights.
