One of our fantastic supporters Richard Brittan truly took on the Virtual London Marathon, his way.

Richard (literally) went the extra mile, running a Ultra Marathon over 9 of Surrey’s biggest hills, covering 32 miles and with a climb over the route of over 1,500km, whilst using GPS Art to create the shape of a mouth via his route - making his run ‘The Surrey Hills Shout’

"I want to encourage people to Shout For Afghanistan - to spread the word about how Coronavirus is impacting vulnerable communities in Afghanistan and support a charity that ensures local voices are at the centre of shaping the future of the country."

Check out Richard's route:

"I’m Richard and for more than 18 years I have worked on projects to help improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan. I lived in Kabul for seven years, sharing a house and office with Afghan colleagues. Everything I have done so far has been in a professional capacity, supporting ongoing humanitarian and development work to help build peace and prosperity for all Afghans. Now I want to support the people of Afghanistan in a personal way.”

Richard has previously completed a variety of gruelling physical events - including the Mount Sana 60km Ultra Marathon in the United Arab Emirates, a 1⁄2 Iron Man in Dubai, and a Man vs Mountain up and down Mount Snowdon - so he is no stranger to a challenge.

But this time, Richard has endurance skills to also fundraise for Afghanaid, and is aiming for a whopping £5,000 to aid Afghanaid's projects. Since the Coronavirus pandemic hit, support for our work has never been more vital, as many remote, rural communities in Afghanistan struggle to fight the disease and its secondary effects. Richard's determination and enthusiasm to challenge himself has certainly kept spirits high, and we can't wait to watch him cross that virtual finish line.
