Get Involved Other Ways to Give Beat the January blues It's that time of year again. As we settle into January and leave the festive period behind us, many of us are left feeling a little deflated. We’ve most likely spent the past few weeks eating delicious food and having fun with our loved ones. But as we step into 2020 - a new year and a brand new decade - it’s a good time to stop and reflect. Afghanaid has big plans for 2020, with projects reaching over one million two hundred fifty-three thousand vulnerable men, women and children. It's time to think about vulnerable widows like Zarwaa (below), who are trapped in poverty and struggle to feed their children. Or fathers like Ali (below), whose children's lives are put at risk every year from annual flash-floods and earthquakes. Thankfully, there are many ways to get your spirits back up after Christmas whilst also helping someone in need. Here's 4 ways to shake off the January blues by doing something amazing: 1) Support a farmer through a training course With £36 we can support a farmer through an agriculture skills training course, and provide them with the seeds and tools they need to grow enough fodder to feed their animals throughout the year, including storing enough to keep them healthy and strong throughout the harsh winter. This is truly life-saving as, with thick blankets of snow covering their land for months on end, many farming families rely on their animals to survive the winter. They use the milk from their cows, the eggs from their chickens and the wool from their sheep to make blankets to keep warm. Teaching a farmer a new skill also enables a family to produce more, thereby providing them with a new, sustainable source of income which means they can send their children to school, consume more nutritious food, access health services, and live with greater dignity. Support a farmer 2) Host a fundraising event Host a fun event for your friends and family, have a dinner party using our Afghan recipes, or get motivated by a challenge event. However big or small your fundraiser, you will truly make a huge difference to the lives of many deprived, excluded and vulnerable families in Afghanistan. The money you raise will help us to empower local communities to have a voice in their own development and shape the future of their country. When you set up a regular gift with Afghanaid you can trust that your gifts are being used in the most efficient way possible. Transform a life today Wishing you health and happiness for 2020!
