Make your special day even more special by choosing to support Afghanaid through your wedding or civil partnership and help to transform lives across Afghanistan.

Weddings are an elaborate affair in Afghanistan. Did you know, Afghan brides traditionally wear green for the Nikah - the Islamic marriage ceremony - as the colour is associated with prosperity and paradise?

Donations instead of gifts

The easiest way to fundraise through your big day is by setting up a sponsorship page on our site, and then asking friends and family for donations instead of gifts. You can share the link on invitations, or have an iPad with the page open on the day.

Fundraising on the day

There are plenty of fun ways you can get your guests involved with fundraising on the day, take a look at some of our ideas below, or get in touch for a chat:

  • Donations in lieu of favours - thank your guests in a meaningful way. We can send you gift cards to distribute to let your guests know a donation has been made in their names for attending your special day.
  • Sweepstake - take bids on the day, for example what will be the first dance or how long will the best man's speech be?
  • Have a karaoke or dance competition and charge an entry fee.
  • Hold a raffle or bingo - have a few prizes and charge guests for tickets.
  • Make sweet boxes and sell for a donation.
  • Auction off any flowers or table displays at the end of the day.
  • Sell duplicate gifts.

Before the big day, we'll send you personalised thank you cards for anyone that has donated via your page, so you can give these to your generous loved ones to explain how their gift is empowering communities across Afghanistan.
