  • Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is a really amazing opportunity for communities, individuals, students and businesses alike to volunteer, spread awareness, donate or fundraise for Afghanaid - all whilst being part of a wider celebration of giving!

What is #GivingTuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement, where millions of people come together to champion causes they believe in.

Originating in the US, following the consumerisation of ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Cyber Monday’, Giving Tuesday was created – to be held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – with the aim of refocusing attention on generosity.

In 2014, the Charities Aid Foundation brought Giving Tuesday to the UK to encourage people to think of others in the run up to Christmas.

When is #GivingTuesday?

This year’s Giving Tuesday is Tuesday 3rd December.

Why #GivingTuesday?

Polling by YouGov tells us that in 2018, 1.5 million people said they were more likely to do something for charity as a result of Giving Tuesday!

Creativity, passion, and collaboration from people just like you has enabled the success of this international day of giving. Giving Tuesday now holds the world record for the most money raised online for charity in 24 hours - last year, the UK raised over £7.8 million just through online donations!

How can you get involved?

Make generosity go viral whilst helping to empower local communities in some of the poorest parts of Afghanistan.

Are you looking to fundraise with a Community Group or Student Society? Why not organise a fundraising event like some of our previous supporters.

Are you fundraising as an individual or small group? Host a dinner party and check out our Afghan Recipe Book for inspiration.

Are you a business? Organise a staff fundraising day, and match-fund all money raised.

However you choose to get involved, Giving Tuesday is a fantastic way to show your support for Afghanaid!

The #GivingTuesdayPledge

Here at Afghanaid, our favourite part about Giving Tuesday is the #GivingTuesdayPledge. Why not go one step further and help to keep the buzz of this incredible generosity movement going all year with a #GivingTuesdayPledge?

You could commit to something new, improve on something you already do, or nominate your friends and family to join you with your current activities of generosity – why not set up a monthly donation to Afghanaid, volunteer for us, or begin a payroll giving programme?

For more information about Giving Tuesday and how you can get involved, please contact a member of our fundraising team at [email protected] or call +44 (0) 20 3559 6647.
