Giving Tuesday is a really amazing opportunity for communities, individuals, students and businesses alike to volunteer, spread awareness, donate or fundraise for Afghanaid - all whilst being part of a wider celebration of giving! This Giving Tuesday, and the week following, we also have a special opportunity to double all donations we receive as part of The Big Give's Christmas Challenge!

What is #GivingTuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement, where millions of people come together to champion causes they believe in.

Originating in the US, following the consumerisation of ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Cyber Monday’, Giving Tuesday was created – to be held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – with the aim of refocusing attention on generosity.

In 2014, the Charities Aid Foundation brought Giving Tuesday to the UK to encourage people to think of others in the run-up to Christmas.

When is #GivingTuesday?

This year’s Giving Tuesday is Tuesday 29th November.

Why #GivingTuesday?

Polling by YouGov tells us that in 2018, 1.5 million people said they were more likely to do something for charity as a result of Giving Tuesday!

Creativity, passion, and collaboration from people just like you has enabled the success of this international day of giving. Giving Tuesday now holds the world record for the most money raised online for charity in 24 hours - two years ago, the UK raised over £7.8 million just through online donations!

What is The Big Give's Christmas Challenge?

In order to make supporters' generosity go even further as part of Giving Tuesday, the Big Give's Christmas Challenge, which begins on Giving Tuesday and lasts for one week, is a chance of supporters of hundreds of charities to get their donations doubled by a group of champion funders and pledgers. In 2020, the Christmas Challenge raised £20.1m for 764 different charities!

Afghanaid are one of the many charities you can support during this week to make your donation go twice as far, and help us support twice as many vulnerable families this winter.

How can you get involved?

Make generosity go viral whilst helping to empower local communities in some of the poorest parts of Afghanistan. If you are unable to donate to our Big Give Christmas Challenge appeal this year, there are plenty of other ways you can show your support for our work:

Are you looking to fundraise with a Community Group or Student Society? Why not organise a fundraising event like some of our previous supporters.

Are you fundraising as an individual or small group? Host a dinner party and check out our Afghan Recipe Book for inspiration.

Are you a business? Organise a staff fundraising day, and match-fund all money raised.

However you choose to get involved, Giving Tuesday is a fantastic way to show your support for Afghanaid!
